It creates Personal Area Networks (PANs) with a high level of security and deals with the problem of synchronization. The word “Bluetooth” is inspired from the name of a 10th century Danish monarch, King Harald Bluetooth who was known for uniting Scandinavian Europe during the period when the region was worn out by wars and feuding clans.

Later in 1998, 5 big companies including IBM, Intel, Nokia, Toshiba and Ericsson, founded the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) with the aim to further develop the technology.
