Amazon Logo
The Amazon logo is quite interesting in its design. Amazon was originally an online marketplace to buy and sell used and new books. It soon diversified selling a variety of things, including furniture; electronics, food, clothing, and streaming movies live as well.
The purpose of a good logo is for company branding. Great logos are simplistic, classic and timeless. The Amazon logo portrays not only a brand and company, but a message as well.
The Amazon logo portrays the message that they sell everything from A-Z. The arrow that points from the A to the Z in Amazon is an example of an emblem that is used not only to represent the company, but a message about the company. This is often hard to accomplish, while sticking to a simplistic design. The Amazon logo nailed it. The arrow is also supposed to resemble the “smile” that it brings to the customer’s face. The black of the Amazon logo reflects boldness. Orange has become an increasingly popular logo color, portraying happiness and pride.
Amazon was founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos and is strategically named after the Amazon River, representing large, and the all encompassing. Due to limited overhead and no brick and mortar storefronts, the online bookstore could sell far more books than other bookstores. Founder Jeff Bezos did not expect to turn a profit for 4-5 years, and in fact, did not turn a profit until the fourth quarter of 2001, 7 years after the company inception. Amazon has been credited for popularizing online shopping and Jeff Bezos was named Person of the Year by Time Magazine in 1999.
