This is my favorite freemasonry emblem! But what exactly is a Master Mason anyway? First we’ll need to look at what freemasonry is. Freemasonry is one of the oldest and largest fraternal organizations in the world. Its full name is Free And Accepted Masons. Freemasonry aims to promote brotherhood and foster morality among its members, although some people would say there’s nothing morally right about this organization. Though not a religion itself, Freemasonry is of a religious nature and encourages its members to be faithful and devoted to their own religions. All Masons profess a belief in God, which, by the way, is a requirement for membership. Masons refer to God as the “Great Architect of the Universe.” The majority of their emblems and rituals are based on the tools and practices of the building professions.
WHAT IS A MASTER MASON?
With that said, let’s go back to our original question. What exactly is a Master Mason. A Master Mason is the highest level obtainable in freemasonry. Here is an exceprt from mastermason.com that best sums it up: “Being a Master Mason is a lot of responsibility. You must be true to yourself and be reminded everyday that being a Master Mason you reflect on all of Masonry. You must not just receive brotherly love, but give it and show it towards everyone. You are in a chain of brothers and sisters, which starts in your heart and through hands, but which spreads around the globe. Be careful you are not the weakest link, so that this chain won’t break because of you”.
There is so much more that could be said about freemasonry, too much to include in this post I’m afraid. But if anyone would like to include any additional info, leave a comment below. I’d love to hear from you!
